I love the new faux leather tassel trend! They are literally everywhere. I absolutely love them on purses and bags. They give a very retro-bohemian look to any accessory. Whatever you decide to to put them on, they’ll add a fun, sophisticated vibe! I just had to add one onto my new summer clutch!
Also this is a no sew tutorial and takes less than 5 minutes to make!
What you’ll need:
- Faux leather (you can also make it out of leather but I prefer the vegan kind)
- Craft glue
- Scissors
Faux leather is basically vinyl and can easily be bought at the fabric store. There are endless colours and textures. You aren’t limited to just one colour which makes it fun!
Step 1: Create the fringe.
Cut out a piece of the faux leather. For this tutorial I used a 2″ by 2″ piece of leather. You can make the width longer if you want a more bulky tassel. You also need to cut out a separate piece that is just over double the height for the loop. So I cut out a 4.5″ piece for the loop.
Draw a line on the back about 1/4″ from the top and cut vertical strips to this line as evenly as possible.
Step 2: Add a layer of glue to the top part of the fringe and add the tassel loop and roll until it is complete
And that’s it! Easy right!
These tassels can be added any handbag, backpack, tote and key chain. They also make some really funky necklace and jewellery pieces. With the summer coming up, tassels are an excellent addition to spice up your accessories! They are cheap and easy to make. What’s better than that!
Me and my tassel clutch will be watching this weekend’s Royal Wedding in style! Who else is excited about the upcoming wedding? During the last wedding I was doing my Master’s in Genetics in Vancouver and I had an assignment due that day. I stayed up pretty much entire night working on the assignment and watching the wedding. There is something so magical about Royal weddings! I can’t wait!
